Jack Price: It's time for Wolves promotion push

Jack Price says new-look Wolves can’t wait for the season to start – as bookies slashed the odds on a Molineux promotion charge.

Pre-season ended on a high with a 1-0 win over Premier League side Leicester City last weekend. And Price is optimistic that life under Nuno Espirito Santo could be successful.

“I’m just buzzing really, we just want to get going ,” Price said. “The last pre-season game’s done, we’ve got a good week under our belt training and all the lads are ready for a full house at Molineux.

“We’ve been drilled into during pre-season training but training isn’t games, so when you put playing into practice in a game against high opposition and you get a victory, our confidence is high.”

Price began pre-season in great form but found himself on the bench for the Leicester clash behind Ruben Neves and Romain Saiss.

He’s hoping to force his way into Nuno’s starting XI on Saturday – and is pleased with how pre-season went.

“Obviously the lads that started against Leicester did well and it will be tough to get in the starting line-up but I’ll hopefully squeeze my way in,” he added. “The result was great but the performance was just as good and that’s important for us to kick on and the gaffer has said that we wanted to treat this game as a competition and we did.

“The system we’re playing suits me well – from the first game of pre-season, we got the ball down and played football which I like to do. It’s the first time for a while where we’ve tried that - three at the back, and it seems to be working, it suits me down to the ground.”

Meanwhile Wolves are now 9/1 with some bookies to win the Championship – down from 18/1 just six weeks ago.

And former Hearts manager Ian Cathro has been linked with Wolves after spending time with Nuno at Compton Park. Reports in Scotland suggest Cathro, Nuno’s assistant at Rio Ave and Valencia, has been helping with scouting for loan players.
