And fans have taken to Twitter to share their golden Bully moments to mark his 30th anniversary.

The legendary Wolves striker gave endless spine-tingling moments to those who cheered him on week after week.

Famous goals against fierce rivals Albion (a last-minute winner at the Hawthorns in 1989), Blues (another last minute winner, this time at Molineux in 1996) and a four-goal haul at Newcastle on New Year's Day 1990 feature high in any fans' Bully list.

Supporters shared a host of Bully and Andy Thompson memories on social media at the weekend.

Phil Bradley referenced two of those when he said: "The day out in Newcastle! Or the winner versus Blues. But thanks both for helping turn the club around."

Andy Powell said: "The word legend is bandied around far too easily these days.

"But with Bully and Thommo it doesn't do them justice."

Alan Leese tweeted: "Flying to Newcastle & seeing Bully's four-goal demolition.

"Steve and Andy helped out greatly in our darkest days."

And Benjamin Jones added: "Lasting memory of Bully – the diving header against Newcastle then his airplane celebration."

Today's generation of fans were brought up on tales of Bully scoring goal after goal.

Johnny Gallagher said: "Bit before my time, but my dad reckons the South Bank used to celebrate a goal as soon as Bully got the ball in the box." Twitter user @RMjnr said: "First match with my old man Boxing Day '95 versus Millwall and hearing 'Goal for Wolves, number nine – Steve Bull'."

Shelley Skipton said: "I remember my dad pointing and saying "see the number 9, he's God" at my very first game in the late 80s."

Ian Lane tweeted: "His back post header against Sheffield United, May 9th 1989, my ninth birthday...we went up as champions that night!"

Richard Marlow said: "Hat-trick at Derby in '94.

"Mugged off Craig Short that day. It was a masterclass in no 9 play."

And Justin Leadbetter summed up the thoughts of the majority of Wolves fans.

He said: "Just quite simply...thank you. You were a blessing to our wonderful club."
