Carl Ikeme

A recurring theme this season but he didn't have many saves to make. One good first-half stop from Kodjia, although it was his poor kick that led to the chance. A spectator in the second half. 7/10

Dominic Iorfa

Said he was looking forward to facing his friend and England Under-21 colleague Jack Grealish...well by half time he was probably thinking differently. Given the runaround by Grealish in the first half, although he was unlucky with the soft penalty. Improved after the break but offered nothing going forward. 5/10

Danny Batth

Revels in this type of occasion. Particularly impressive in the air, especially in the first half. Made a number of important clearances and never looked troubled. A welcome return to form for the skipper after two poor performances before the international break. 8/10

Kortney Hause

With his left foot he brings balance to the defence. Lots of potential in his and Batth's partnership, as seen towards the end of last season. Brought the ball out well and was composed throughout. 7/10

Matt Doherty

Good to see him back at left-back, where he looks far more comfortable these days. Didn't venture forward much, as has been the case under Zenga, but defensively he was sound. 7/10

Helder Costa

Beginning to rival Bodvarsson in the 'signing of the summer' stakes. What a performance. He was unplayable at times, particularly early in the second half. Possesses so much pace, but uses it wisely to get into dangerous positions and his end product is excellent. His goalbound shot led to the penalty, which he dispatched with class. Curled one just past the post, crossed brilliantly for Oniangue and teed up Bodvarsson for the penalty that never was. Brilliant. 9/10

Conor Coady

An overdue recall and he grabbed his opportunity with both hands. Loves a derby contest and he duly got stuck in (and stamped on). Won plenty of tackles and instigated a few attacks too. Villa's midfield was lightweight and he took advantage. 8/10

Romain Saiss

Fairly anonymous in the first half but a big improvement in the second half when he dictated a lot of the play. Played a sublime pass over the top for Dicko. And he didn't get booked! 7/10

David Edwards

Another who filled his boots in that second half when Wolves were cutting through Villa like a knife through butter. Tireless and energetic, as usual. Should have done better with that late chance after Bodvarsson's flick on put him through on goal. Also went close with a well-directed header from Cavaleiro's corner. 7/10

Prince Oniangue

A surprise to see him on the left flank and the experiment didn't really work. Almost scored when he steered Costa's cross past the post. Withdrawn after 66 minutes. 5/10

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson

How Wolves have missed him - they're a much better side for his presence. Gives the team a focal point and makes the ball stick up front. Very good in the air and linked well with Dicko too, promisingly. Probably would have scored were it not for being barged to the floor by Richards in the box. 7/10

Substitutes

Nouha Dicko (for Oniangue, 66)

A busy cameo from the returning striker. Snatched at the one chance he had, a half volley from a tight angle. Looking forward to seeing more from him and Bodvarsson. 7/10

Ivan Cavaleiro (for Costa, 72)

Picked up where Costa left off with some on-the-money set pieces and decent crosses. Should have done better with his late chance. 7/10

Joe Mason (for Bodvarsson, 87)

No time to make an impact. N/A

Subs not used: Lonergan, Stearman, Saville, Teixeira.
