VERDICT: Wolves fans delighted with derby performance

Our fans heap praise on Wolves after a great second half performance - but have a few choice words about the referee.

What's your verdict on the match? I would have taken a point at the start of the day, however I can't help but feel a little bit disappointed with the draw after an outstanding second half.

All that was missing from some great build up play was the killer touch, although it might have been a blessing in disguise as I think a winner would have seen me grappling with the rather attractive female police officer on Row A.

The first half wasn't great and the coolly dispatched penalty was probably more than we deserved on the balance of play.

Not sure what Zenga said to them at half time, but we looked and played like a different team after the break.

Costa was at the heart of everything. Pace, skill, bottle...he's got the lot. Last time I was that excited watching someone, I had six episodes of Hermione Norris off Cold Feet on loop.

Costa and Bodvarsson are absolutely crucial to the way we play and Zenga will no doubt be building the team around them and a spine of Saiss and Coady, who again impressed.

I'm still not sold on Prince, who's like a modern day version of Olofinjana...looks like a brute, but in reality he's a bit of a fairy.

I suppose I should mention the referee, who was so bad I'd imagine the FA will have to invent a new performance chart to mark him.

In fact, the only thing worse than him yesterday was the pre-match pint in the Gunmakers Arms, which makes an afternoon in Kabul look like a pleasant alternative. Cheers to Stu Davis for that one!

Grealish, who should stick to necking a few bottles of VK in the Park Regis Hotel, should have seen red for his stamp and how Chester escaped a second yellow is beyond belief.

Then you have the challenge on Bodvarsson in the second half, as cast iron a penalty as you will ever see, especially bearing in mind he gave one for a similar challenge on the oily rat from Aston in the first half.

Who played well - and who didn't impress? Costa was immense from start to finish. There is no better sight in football than watching a player beat a defender and he did it all night long.

We need to make his singing permanent and quick...someone get Mendes a few Superbocks to seal the deal.

I've not been his biggest fan, but Coady had another good game and is starting to merit his transfer fee. Someone within the club said he's captain material and I think we're finally starting to see why.

Russ Evers (Hatherton Wolves)

What's your verdict on the match? A 1-1 hammering? It was definitely two points dropped as Carl Ikeme only had a few back passes to deal with all game.

Villa were dire with only Jack Grealish and the most one-eyed homer of a referee saving them.

I couldnt tell if it was a penalty against Iorfa as we were 30 yards behind the line in the gods with appalling 1960s conditions including very limited food and no beer available.

Second half was 95 per cent Wolves and we may have had two more penalties to go with Costa's equaliser.

The Prince, Edwards and Cavaleiro missed chances they would take nine times out of 10. Best chance in years to beat this shower but a point away? Would probably have taken it at 5pm, but disappointed now.

Who played well - and who didn't impress? Good performers? All of them, except Iorfa.

What's your verdict on the match? Another improving game after a poor start. I thought the first half was a typical derby - fast and furious. There was much better quality in the second half with Wolves on top.

I haven't seen film of the penalty that wasn't given yet however, if any complaints, I would be questioning how we managed to miss so many chances when we were dominating the second half.

Can only remember two decent chances for Villa all game - final pass missed and superb turnover save from Ikeme - how do they have so many 'good' forwards yet only manage that?

Through the team. .. Ikeme great save, Doherty good first half going forward, Batth some important stops and clearances, didn't notice Hause so that has to be good and Iorfa still picking up those important learning experiences.

Saiss seemed a bit erratic for me, Prince contributed little, Coady worked his socks off again and was an extra threat going forward, while Edwards was always involved, and Costa the man of the match.

Jon Dadi was powerful and worried Villa's defence a treat - pity he doesn't get many scoring chances, possibly takes one touch too many?

Cavaleiro showed good pace off the bench and will be kicking himself for not scoring, but neither Dicko and Mason found themselves in good enough scoring positions.

Who played well - and who didn't impress? As mentioned, Costa was man of the match for showing some excellent individual skills on the ball and producing good runs into danger areas.

He showed great variety with his free kicks plus he took a stonking penalty.

What's your verdict on the match? I never thought I'd see the day I'd come away from Villa Park disappointed that we'd only got a point but that's exactly how I felt after full time here.

While it could be argued that Villa slightly edged a turgid first half that was low on quality, we came out in the second half and played with much more energy and could have scored three or four had it not been for a mixture of poor finishing and good goalkeeping.

There are still things that need tweaking (Prince on the wing - that's something that I don't need to see again!) but there are more signs that this side can cause problems once it 'clicks'.

Hopefully a returning Dicko will be able to add a goal threat to our attacking play once he's back up to match sharpness.

Who played well - and who didn't impress? A fairly solid performance from all but standouts were Costa, who caused trouble for Villa's back four throughout the game and was easily our most creative outlet, Coady, who played with energy and intensity in midfield to win tackles and played some good passes, and Batth and Hause, who did an excellent job in keeping Kodjia and McCormack quiet.

Prince looked out of place and out of his comfort zone on the left wing. Iorfa also had a few moments of discomfort in trying to deal with Grealish.

What's your verdict on the match? I always felt that the timing of Steve Bruce's appointment was bad for Wolves and it turned out so, as we definitely deserved to win this game.

I just wish that we would play the whole game like we did in the second half.

I was pleased with team picked by Walter. We needed Bodvarsson back and Coady had deserved his return. We also had the strongest bench that I can ever recall.

I refuse to mention the ref; except to say on another day we easily could have had three penalties and been playing against 10 or even nine men for a significant part of the game. Chester and Grealish should both have walked in my opinion.

Oh and Villa Park hasn't seen diving like Grealish since the days of Ashley Young!

A sluggish first half where we were too quick to retreat when not in possession was transformed into a stylish second half where we took control from kick off and created three or four good chances in the first 12 minutes. We went on to dominate.

Who played well - and who didn't impress? Costa, Coady, Bodvarsson and Hause all impressed. As did Ikeme with a couple of fine saves. Man of the match was Costa and what a cool penalty he took.

As good as Costa was on the right, Oniangue was ineffective on the left. Iorfa had a nightmare game in the first half though he had little to do in the second.

Well done Walter - a great way to answer the critics. Extra shooting practice on Monday please!
