Wolves takeover: Chinese restaurant sees more business on the menu
The manager of a long-standing Chinese restaurant in Wolverhampton has expressed his delight over the Wolves takeover.
Karl Chan, Manager of the city centre Queens Cantonese restaurant, believes the £30 million sale to Chinese investment company Fosun International will boost tourism in the city.
The consortium was confirmed to have taken over on Thursday and has committed to investing between £20-£30m over the next two years into the club.
This has led to high hopes among fans of a return to the Premier League in the near future.
Mr Chan, aged 39, said there has already been a rise in Chinese tourists visiting the city which could be amplified by the sale.
"Recently we have seen quite a few tourists coming over from China," he said.
"They have come over in tourist groups and have been staying in The Britannia Hotel. Over the last two months we have seen around two groups of more than 100 people each week.
"They use Wolverhampton as a stop-off point as they explore different parts of England. The last group told me there next stop was going to be Oxford.
"When they were here we did a lot more business and I think the sale will create more interest in Wolverhampton itself.
"When Ståle Solbakken came over from Norway we did a lot more business from that country. It was really bizarre. There really was so many more of them and hopefully we can expect the same now with China.
"You only have to look at Leicester City and how big they have become in Thailand. What we might see now are things like Wolves going to China on pre-season tours."
Mr Chan, manager of the Queen Street restaurant for the last 10 years, has catered for several Wolves legends.
Sir Jack Hayward would frequently stop off for food when he visited from the Bahamas and Steve Bull is another who has dined there on several occasions.
Mr Chan added that if the club does return to the Premier League, it would be a huge boost for his own business.
