Video: Wolves' George Saville kept the faith
Wolves hero George Saville said he was over the moon with his late winner and declared "I've never doubted myself."
Saville scored his first two goals for the club in Saturday's dramatic 2-1 home win over Derby as Wolves ended a barren seven-game win-less run.
And it completed a huge turnaround for Saville, who many thought wouldn't be seen in a Wolves shirt again.
It came after he was loaned out to Bristol City and Millwall and went 15 months between league starts for Kenny Jackett's team.
The match-winner said: "It's been a tough year going out on loan twice but I've had a few games now and against Derby I hopefully showed the supporters what I'm capable of. I've never doubted myself.
"You have to be mentally strong. It is tough, going out on loan, not thinking you're good enough to get in certain teams, you've got to block it out, stay strong, keep working hard and anything can happen.
"Your family, your friends, they're supporting you, it's what you need in tough times. And good times like this you can enjoy it with them.
"I'm delighted and it's a cliche but you can't do it without the support you get.
"Grit, determination, hard work off the ball and hard work every day in training – that's what we have to do.
"We've had a tough patch. We've lost games when maybe we shouldn't have lost them, we've drawn games where we could have nicked a win.
"Today we got the win but we've deserved it, we played good football and were the better team on the day. Hopefully, that stands us in good stead."
Wolves were booed by their own fans in a dreadful 3-0 defeat at Brentford just five days before the Derby win.
What could Saville attribute the difference to? He continued: "Nothing's been done differently, we just kept working hard. We've got a good bunch of lads and a quality set of players.
"An early goal has helped us to settle down, we haven't really looked back and the supporters got behind us, and we pushed on.
"They stuck with us, I presume because we've obviously won, it's been tough, they haven't enjoyed it and we haven't enjoyed it."
And how did it feel to score that 86th minute winner? He added: "I was buzzing, it's a great feeling, it's what all footballers want, to score the winner in a game like this.
"I'm over the moon. I'm happy. We deserved it after a tough patch."
