Wolves are believed to have had a £3m bid for Nantes striker Emiliano Sala rejected.

The Argentine-born forward has scored two goals in Ligue 1 this season having moved from fellow French side Bordeaux last summer.

Aged 25, Sala enjoyed a productive loan spell with Caen – the club from whom Wolves signed Sylvain Deslandes in the summer – towards the end of last season.

He netted five goals in 13 appearances, with seven of those being starts.

And reports in France suggest Wolves have now tabled a £3m bid for his services, turned down by Nantes.

Their president Waldemar Kita is quoted as saying: "This is not about money. He's only been there six months. We need him."

Wolves have looked at a host of strikers as they search for a Benik Afobe replacement.

An inquiry was made for Peterborough's Conor Washington, who this week joined Wolves' next opponents QPR, while they have also been strongly linked with Bolton's Zach Clough, Nahki Wells of Huddersfield, Crystal Palace's Fraizer Campbell, Jason Cummings of Hibs and Swansea forward Eder.
