Video: Jackett and Coady on Wolves win
Boss Kenny Jackett praised his Wolves team for showing heart as they dug in to claim three vital points against Reading.
James Henry's first-half header against his former club earned what was just Wolves' third home win of the season and their first since early October.
Reading laid siege to Wolves' goal in the second half but Jackett's side - who had conceded seven in their previous two matches - held on.
Jackett said: "We all stuck together, the players worked very hard for each other and, although it wasn't pretty we got a win.
"It's our first here for some time, which is a big step for the players to be able to build on. I felt the first half was very open, there were a lot of chances for both teams.
"We hit the post, had several chances, although Reading had chances as well. The second period was different, we had to just sit in and protect our lead.
"Barring the Oliver Norwood chance we did restrict them to very few, if any, shots and clear cut chances.
"It's good because we've been in front in the last two games and ended up conceding four (against Sheffield Wednesday) and three (against Leeds)."
It certainly wasn't a classic Wolves performance by any stretch of the imagination, especially after the break in which their attacking ambitions were restricted to a solitary shot.
In total Reading had 24 shots to Wolves' six, but Jackett was more concerned with claiming the vital win that keeps his team clear of the relegation zone.
He added: "We really had to dig in to be able to get that win. We'd love to go and dominate and play good football.
"But there's been times when we've played very good football within games, and had outstanding passages, but then basically given away too many goals to be in with a chance of earning points.
"Days like today are necessary, they're certainly needed, with the two games that have preceded it.
"We needed to dig something out, show some heart, be harder to beat and more compact.
"We have to try to build on that on Monday (against Charlton). It was a very hard-earned win against a very good Reading side.
"We restricted them to very few chances and defended for our lives at times."
