Kenny Jackett slammed his players for being outfought and making it 'too easy' for Leeds as the visitors edged a bizarre game 3-2 at Molineux.

Wolves started the better side and led through the recalled Benik Afobe's strike.

But some dreadful defending either side of half time saw Leeds power 3-1 ahead, with Nathan Byrne's late goal proving no more than a consolation.

"When Leeds got on top of us, it was too easy for them," he said. "We need to be better defensively.

"The middle part of the game was disappointing. They got a goal back and then in particular the start of the second period Leeds out-powered us, had too much strength, too much aggression for us.

"Standing up physically in that period was something we didn't necessarily do.

"We were always chasing (after that). The start of the second half was when Leeds deservedly won the game.

"They just had a bit too much power. It wasn't that we weren't trying. Defending as a side was tough. We gave poor goals away."

Jackett's team had played some great football early on and could have been out of sight by the half hour mark.

However the defeat leaves them nine points off the play-offs.

Are his players good enough to transform their fortunes? "Yes they have it in them," Jackett replied.

"We are close – there's a vital gap.

"It was a big contradiction is terms of performance.

"When you give goals away like that it's tough to retain confidence. We can't go into games with brittle confidence.

"Yes we had spells but finding that winning equation is very important.

"We've got to keep working at it."

Afobe made a goalscoring return after being dropped for the past two games.

Jackett said of his performance: "He's made a good return. It's never a bad thing to miss a couple of games and come in fresh.

"Getting the service to him is something we have to keep working at."

Wolves remain toothless at Molineux having won just two matches all season.

Is it a psychological problem playing at home? "No I don't think so. Before tonight there's been five draws, which shows we're close. The overall performance level of some of those games has been good, but we didn't do it tonight.

"The big thing is that the support has been very good for the players, we can't complain about that."
