Video: Wolves seal Mike Williamson deal
Wolves today completed the signing of Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson on a month's loan to ease their defensive crisis.
Williamson has fallen down the pecking order at St James' Park and Wolves have moved to bring him in on a temporary basis.
Kortney Hause and Ethan Ebanks-Landell are both on the sidelines and Dominic Iorfa is a doubt for Saturday's crucial West Midlands derby at Birmingham City.
Former Watford stopper Williamson has five seasons of Premier League football under his belt at St James' Park, where he had been a regular in the team up until this season.
Aged 31, if Williamson will become Wolves' oldest player by two years and will add much-needed experience to a struggling team that have lost their last three matches.
Head coach Kenny Jackett said: "With the injury problems we have at the back, we are delighted to have brought in an experienced player like Mike.
"Although he hasn't had much game time this season, he has been training all the time and is itching to get back into first-team football and the opportunity at Wolves is a good one.
"It works both ways and we are very pleased to have him at a time when defensively we have been leaking goals and have been short of defenders.
"You could see in the last gamem where Conor Coady had to go in there. Recognised experienced defenders have been at a premium.
"We are delighted to add Mike to the group and believe he complements the players that we have here."
Head of football development and recruitment Kevin Thelwell added: "All the reports we have had on Mike have been really good, both on and off the pitch.
"He was keen to come, wants to do well and is excited about the opportunity of playing in a derby on Saturday. He is going to bring a lot of experience and a lot of quality to our back four.
"You are always looking at players and talking to people about availability for situations like this. It can be really difficult to get clubs to let players out.
"Clubs in the Premier League are often nervous about letting players out on loan, in case they get an injury.
"While we can all see players who aren't involved with their clubs, it's not necessarily the case that they are available.
"To be able to bring Mike in with all of his experience and playing record is something we are really pleased with."
