Nathan Byrne told to pin down Wolves place
Nathan Byrne has been challenged to rival James Henry for Wolves' right-wing berth after making his second start for the club.
The 23-year-old produced a good performance against Middlesbrough, albeit one tainted by conceding the penalty that gave the visitors the lead so late in the game.
He was a surprise choice ahead of Henry, who has arguably been Wolves' best player so far this season.
Boss Kenny Jackett has called for former Swindon man Byrne to become an important member in the first-team squad.
Jackett said of Saturday: "Nathan Byrne did well up to a point and then, obviously, tired. It was a key moment for the penalty.
"I feel he's best used in the wide right position, if we can get to the stage where Byrne and Henry are dovetailing, that would be good.
"That can work well for us and Byrne can build on Saturday."
Another player to make a mark in the game was Scott Golbourne, with the left-back teeing up David Edwards for Wolves' first-half opener.
Golbourne endured a torrid time with a foot injury last season but has played his way back into form over recent weeks.
Jackett hopes his more frequent forays forward are a sign that his confidence is back.
He said: "We hope so, we certainly hope so. Assists, crosses, work-rate up and down that left flank is something he'll always give you. He'll always continue to give that.
"As we all know, he's had some injury problems with a foot, he's over that now. Scott Golbourne is a player that gives everything he's got every single game.
"It was a very good assist for David Edwards in what was a well-worked goal."
In the second-half, Conor Coady was moved into central defence when Kortney Hause was stretchered off with a hamstring injury.
Jackett, while feeling Coady has attributes to do well in defence, feels the former Huddersfield man should only be used there in an emergency.
He said: "Conor has certainly got the responsibility to be able to do that, but he's not a recognised defender and I don't think it's something we should be doing other than when necessary."
