Joe Gallen: Don't expect Wolves signings

Joe Gallen believes further signings at Wolves are now unlikely before the start of the new Championship season.

But the assistant head coach believes the current squad is strong enough to hit the ground running when the campaign gets under way at Blackburn in eight days' time.

Jed Wallace and Conor Coady are to this point the only first-team arrivals since the end of last season, while the likes of Leon Clarke, Tomascz Kuszczak, Michael Jacobs and Bakary Sako have departed Molineux.

Head coach Kenny Jackett is keen to strengthen but while that process is "ongoing" Gallen thinks Tuesday's performance against Villa showed the quality already at the club.

"There haven't been (a lot of additions)," he said. "But looking at Tuesday night I was thinking if we go to Blackburn with that XI and those subs, I would take that.

"With that group of players and that group of subs I will be pleased and feeling we can get a result."

Gallen expects Wolves to start the season with what they already have in terms of player personnel. Having missed out on the play-offs on goal difference last season, he accepts there are increased expectations this time around.

But he insisted any new additions would need to be better than what they have now. "You are always looking (for players)," he said. "If the right player comes up I'm sure everyone involved will go for it.

"But if you look at Tuesday night for example, the performance was high and it would be hard to get players (to better that).

"We need some players to beef up the squad but Kenny and Kev (head of football development Kevin Thelwell) have always said if you bring in a player it has to be better than what you have got and I think that is going to be quite hard to do. "I would be happy to go with the guys who faced Villa."

Wolves round off pre-season with a visit to League One Doncaster Rovers tomorrow (kick-off 3pm).
