Aaron Simpson seals move to Wolves
Teenager Aaron Simpson today completed his move to Wolves from Maidstone and admitted the move hasn't sunk in yet.
Wolves announced the highly-rated 17-year-old right-back has sealed his move after agreeing an 18-month contract, with an extra year in the club's favour, a week ago.
Simpson will go into Scott Sellars' Under-21s squad and is poised to make his debut today away to Stoke.
He caught the eye of Wolves scouts this season, helping Maidstone to the top of the Ryman Premier Division and the second round of the FA Cup.
Simpson is the latest 'outside' recruit for the development squad after Lee Evans, who has progressed to the first-team, Jordi Ortega, Albert Torras, Carlo Erdei, Eusebio Bancessi, Connor Hunte, George Swan and Bradley Reid.
Wolves' head of football development Kevin Thelwell said: "Aaron will only become 18 next month.
"He'll go straight into our Under-21 squad by virtue that he's been playing mens' football and fitting in very well.
"He's impressed everyone in the short time he's been here and we're delighted to have signed him and are looking forward to working with him."
Simpson, who was with Maidstone on a non-contract basis, will make his Wolves debut in this afternoon's Under-21 Premier League game against Stoke at Macclesfield Town (2pm).
The stopper, who has already played for the England 'C' non-league representative team, said: "I still don't feel like it's sunk in yet.
"I went up there on the Sunday night, trained on Monday and Tuesday, had Wednesday off, trained on the Thursday and then had an in-house match with the Under-18s and Under-21s on the Friday.
"It went really well - I really enjoyed my time there and on that Friday before I came back home they pulled me into the office and told me I'd done well and that they wanted to sign me.
"When I got told there was this massive smile that came across my face and I couldn't wipe it off.
"It all happened so quickly. When I started out playing football it was my dream to become a professional footballer and putting pen to paper was the icing on the cake."
Simpson is well aware that the hard work is not over for him, though, saying: "Some people have said 'you've made it now' but that's not the case, at all.
"This is when the hard work starts now - it's going to be harder than ever what with training every day and the high expectations that will be on me."
But while one dream is just beginning, another is coming to an end as a result of signing a professional deal.
He said: "I've just played my first, and only England Schoolboys game.
"I'm not eligible anymore, which is a shame because I spent a lot of time missing Maidstone games to focus on that, but Wolves is a big opportunity and an opportunity I couldn't really turn down.
"I've had a really great year and I've got to thank Maidstone for that and Soccer Elite academy and all the teams I've played for for helping me get here."
Simpson is pictured signing his contract with his father Delroy and Wolves secretary Richard Skirrow.
