Leon Clarke has won over the Wolves fans
Striker Leon Clarke could be set for an extended run in the Wolves team after winning over the fans.
Head coach Kenny Jackett believes the experienced 29-year-old understands the system he's asked to play in more than ever before after his match-winning strike at Leeds.
And Jackett also feels the crowd are willing to give the Wolverhampton-born forward a chance.
"I think all supporters and certainly the Wolves supporters can pick up on commitment and effort very quickly," said Jackett.
"That's been the case with Clarke, probably going back to the Reading game. They've picked up on his commitment, effort and desire to play for Wolves.
"He's a very good footballer who can link the play and score goals. Now you do need those qualities to come through on the effort but fans do respond first off to the basics, and he's been doing those.
"And if you can then add ball retention and goals, yes, it can be the start of a productive run for him."
Clarke's 18-month contract is up end of the season.
And while Jackett admitted it's too premature to talk of the player's future, he hinted the much-travelled striker who signed from Coventry last year can win a new Molineux deal.
"It's too early to talk of that but what I see is someone committed to the club and battling and fighting like mad to want to do well here and I like those qualities," he said.
"And they will take people a long way. He's shown good form of late and has always been wholehearted when he's played. He's probably right at his best in a slightly withdrawn role rather than right up there.
"He's been patient but when he plays, he's full of commitment and full of running. Putting him in his preferred position behind the striker is something we feel can bring out the best in him.
"From his point of view his understanding of the role is better than it has been since he's been here," added Jackett.
