Wolves ready to cover loss of Nouha Dicko

Boss Kenny Jackett today urged Wolves' fringe strike-force to bridge the gap to cover the loss of Nouha Dicko.

The 22-year-old striker has failed to recover for tomorrow's clash at Reading from a tight hamstring that forced him off at half-time of the 1-0 win against Bolton last Saturday when he scored the only goal.

"Injuries happen but it's down to this group of very capable players to adapt, and they're looking forward to the game," said the head coach.

"Now we have to push on and make sure we do very well without him. His pace over the top from that position is quite key and has been key to how we have played definitely.

"So it will be a loss because he's had a successful period."

Dicko's absence for the first time this season means Jackett has just two fit senior strikers for the trip to the Madejski Stadium in Leon Clarke and Liam McAlinden.

Jackett is staying tightlipped on Dicko's replacement.

Asked if it will be Clarke, he said: "We'll see. The options are Clarke, McAlinden, and Rajiv Van La Parra, who's been on the outside since James Henry has come back in, and Michael Jacobs."

Dicko's injury makes Wolves' striker shortage even more acute, but there is no imminent arrival of another forward.

Jackett added: "It (striker search) doesn't take on a greater urgency; it's ongoing all of the time."

Wolves still have Southampton striker Emmanuel Mayuka on their radar.

And Zambia manager Honour Janza said Mayuka must leave to play first-team football and keep his place in the national team.

"If he can quickly move to where he can play that will be good," said Janza. "What's important for a player is to have game time."

Wolves are due to give Sierra Leone forward Kei Kamara an answer after the 30-year-old trained with them for two days this week.

"He's an experienced front player and having left Middlesbrough on August 30, is looking for a club," said Jackett.

"He did OK, but you'd have to apply for a work permit which would take at least a week, so it's not something for right now, it's something for along the way."

Dicko is expected to be fit for Wednesday's visit of Huddersfield.

"You need a build-up of full training and he'll need a build-up now building towards Wednesday's game," said Jackett.

Asked if he would be resting players as they kick off three matches in a week, Jackett said: "Not really. I think the players should be able to play three games in seven days."
