Wolves' Kenny Jackett: We scouted 'wonderkid' Ryan Gauld

Kenny Jackett admitted 18-year-old wonderkid Ryan Gauld, who Sporting Lisbon have just snapped up from Dundee United for £3m on a six-year deal, was scouted by the club.

The attacking midfielder, who scored eight goals in 28 appearances last season and was nominated for PFA Scotland young player of the year, has had a £47.8m release clause in his contract by the Portuguese side.

Jackett said: "He was certainly somebody we monitored and had reports on but there was no bid and we didn't go any further than that.

"He was certainly in our system of players we watched. He's signed a six year contract there.

"It just shows you - there are a lot of good young Scottish players around.

"Two have gone to Swansea City in Stephen Kingsley and Jay Fulton, both from Falkirk.

"We'll see if Gauld is good enough. Sporting will be thinking how they can develop him and what he's going to be, rather than what he is now.

"It's a good policy because if you keep doing that with young players, you do get people out of it."
