Wolves' Kenny Jackett tells David Davis to take his chance
David Davis was today challenged to avoid becoming the forgotten man at Wolves - as the club delayed a decision on loaning out Zeli Ismail.
Davis, who is into the final year of his contract, lost his way after starting last season as a first choice under head coach Kenny Jackett.
Smethwick-born Davis found himself down the pecking order below less experienced youngsters Jack Price and Lee Evans alongside player of the year Kevin McDonald.
But Jackett insisted it is not too late for the 23-year-old Molineux academy graduate to grab his place back.
"He started last season but lost his place and other people developed," said the boss.
"But we've started again, everyone has their front foot on the line and David is one of them, definitely.
"It's a fresh season and a new chance.
"He's been very well thought of in his years here but just unfortunately lost his place. But that's football and it's about how he reacts now."
While Wolves have put a decision over Ismail on hold, they will allow Anthony Forde to leave on loan.
Burton Albion, where 20-year-old Ismail impressed from January to May, want to take him back on a temporary basis.
Ismail and Forde have a year left on their contracts but Jackett wants to give Ismail every chance to impress at Wolves in pre-season.
"My thoughts are to have a look at Zeli in pre-season and do some work with him," said the boss.
"I haven't set a deadline, but I'll assess it, make sure he gets the games he needs and doesn't stay here floating around the edge of it.
"There are two leagues below us now and I'm sure there are teams who would take some of these players, and that's a positive."
Forde was linked with League Two side Stevenage at the weekend as they look to replace Luke Freeman, who has joined Bristol City.
