Wolves chasing Coventry City striker Callum Wilson
Wolves were today identified as one of four Championship clubs chasing Coventry striker Callum Wilson.
Head coach Kenny Jackett has now followed up his enquiry in January with firmer interest in the 22-year-old hotshot, who Coventry rate at up to £3m.
Wilson, who scored 22 goals last season, is also on the radar of Bournemouth, who have serious financial clout now they are under Russian ownership, but not Nottingham Forest.
Wolves are unlikely to bid as high as £3m, but they have signalled their intentions to the Sky Blues and it's understood they have asked to be kept informed of developments.
Coventry development director Steve Waggart said: "At the moment our view is that Callum is not for sale.
"We have had approaches from four Championship clubs who are keen to secure the services of one of the best young strikers around.
"As it stands we have rebuffed and rejected all offers that have come in.
"We've had what I would call four firm enquiries all together, comprising two written bids, one quite firm verbal offer and one indicative enquiry where they have said they are interested.
"They are all Championship clubs, which is to be expected to be honest.
"But we haven't had a formal approach from Forest – certainly not through me anyway and I don't think the manager (Steven Pressley) has because he would have updated me with anything."
For the moment, Coventry are looking to keep Wilson and build a team to challenge for promotion around him.
"We think if we can get the right players around him to gel with his pace off the shoulder with Callum's movement and everything else he will give us, there's a great chance of us pushing for promotion via the play-offs," said Waggart.
Jackett wants to sign a striker this summer and is also interested in Leicester's former Albion youngster Chris Wood.
But he will have to play a waiting for the 22-year-old he had on loan at Millwall as the Foxes want to finalise their signings first before allowing anyone to leave.
At the moment, Jackett has three senior forwards - Nouha Dicko, Wilson's former Sky Blues strike partner Leon Clarke and Liam McAlinden.
