The 22-year-old centre-back rescued a point in Saturday's 2-2 Championship draw against Leeds with a last-gasp equaliser on his full league home debut.

Batth has impressed in two games after replacing the suspended Roger Johnson for the 2-1 defeat at Leicester.

The Brierley Hill-born defender has never been afraid to be vocal on the pitch, despite his tender years and relative inexperience.

And current skipper Karl Henry – himself a Black Country native – believes Batth could one day follow in his footsteps.

"Danny's a good player and he's a captain in the making," said 30-year-old Henry. "I thought that when he made his debut a few years ago.

"He's a good professional and I'm glad he got his goal. Like David Davis, he's come into the team in very difficult circumstances, because we're struggling, so it's not great. But he's been a tower of strength.

"He's a strong, solid centre-half who wins his headers and is good on the ball.

"He's got a long career ahead of him."

Batth's Man of the Match performance at the weekend has sparked speculation that he could keep Johnson out of the team after Saturday's trip to Derby, when the £4m defender becomes available for the crunch clash at fellow strugglers Barnsley a week tonight. And Henry believes Batth could keep Johnson kicking his heels.

"Why not?" added the midfielder. "If he performs like he has and scores goals like that then he's going to be difficult to budge."

Henry was injured when Wolves scraped a fortunate 1-1 draw at home to the Rams in August.

"It's going to be tough but every game is going to be for us now," said Henry.

"I missed the home game through injury and I remember we could have been 6-0 down at half-time.

"We just have to get the right result somehow. We've got to stop the rot and pull ourselves out of this mess we're in."
