Stephen Ward has no fear for Wolves
To fans of a certain generation, any game against Liverpool was one approached with a certain trepidation.
To fans of a certain generation, any game against Liverpool was one approached with a certain trepidation.
But, after their win at Anfield last month, Wolves certainly will not fear the visit of the Reds tomorrow.
While respecting the return of a true Anfield legend in Kenny Dalglish, the man whose name will be etched in Wolves folklore after his winner on Merseyside insists any reputations can go out of the window for 90 minutes.
Utility man Stephen Ward said: "To have one of their greatest players in the manager's seat at the moment will galvanise their players.
"But we're as confident as we've been all season. The way we're playing, we don't fear anyone. You look at how well we played at Manchester City against a team worth multi-millions of pounds.
"We were bitterly disappointed not to get something from a really positive performance. Off the back of how we've been playing and the result in the FA Cup, I think we have a great chance.
"We'll respect Liverpool because of the club and the team they are, but we'll be ready to kick on and get three points.
"We feel this game is a really good chance to get a result."
Ward's goal at Anfield was something of a collector's item after it secured Wolves' first win there in almost 27 years, while it was his first strike in 130 games.
But whether or not they are concerned about him, the Dubliner is convinced the Reds will be more wary of Wolves this time.
He said: "They might wonder where I'm going to play! Hopefully I play but I think Liverpool will come here fairly wary of us after winning up there.
"I think on the night we were outstanding. It gives us confidence to hopefully beat them here on our own patch.
"Hopefully we can make it as tough for them as we did up there."
One thing's for certain - the stirring performances against Liverpool, Chelsea and both Manchester clubs this season mean Wolves will not be fazed by taking on the big boys.
Ward said: "Last year when we played against the top four, I think there was probably a bit more of a gulf between us and them.
"But this season we've shown we're capable of doing well against the big guns."
Ward is confident Wolves can build on their recent improvement after their experiences last term in staying up.
He said: "We always have a belief in ourselves that we can get out of this. The experience of being in and around it last season and playing in pressure situations when you're down there at the bottom will stand us in good stead.
"If you look at our form over the last eight games, our results have been as good as almost any."
Ward's experiences against Liverpool are mixed - his match-winning goal came almost a year to the day after his sending off at Anfield on Boxing Day 2009.
But the 25-year-old is anxious to build on what is his career highlight so far.
He said: "It was the highlight and hopefully I'll get a few more like it in my career.
"That was an important win for us and hopefully we can turn them over again."
With the 12.45pm kick-off, Wolves would climb to 15th if they win tomorrow - for at least two hours.
Ward has challenged his team-mates to use the timing to steal a march on their rivals.
He said: "It's nice playing early because if we win the other teams are going to be looking at our result before they go out.
"And, if we've won, it will put pressure on the teams around us."
Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher are set to be paired together in a 4-4-2 for only the third time in the Premier League after the Chelsea and Manchester City games.
After both scored in Tuesday's 5-0 FA Cup rout of Doncaster, Ward believes the duo have the quality to score against anyone.
He said: "We see it every day in training. I think they're both quality strikers and they've shown in a lot of games this season how good they are."
