West Brom boss James Morrison will make Toby Collyer call for benefit of new midfielder
The highly-regarded midfielder checked in as the penultimate of 10 new summer signings.
Boss James Morrison will make sure the time is right to offer Toby Collyer a second Albion debut.
The former Manchester United prospect checked in as the Baggies ninth and penultimate signing of a busy summer in a £3million move driven by the head coach.
Collyer, whose half-season loan this time last term was scuppered by injury, was an unused substitute against Charlton on Wednesday. He could make his bow as a permanent Albion player at home to Watford on Saturday.
Morrison is, all of a sudden, well-stocked in the central midfield department despite losing club captain Alex Mowatt on the eve of the season.
"We've got a plan for him,” Morrison told the Express & Star. “He's only had a couple of days' training.
"I don't want to say 'I've got to be careful' - it's just got to be right for him.
"It’s for him to be in the building, have some training under him and have some game time.”
Collyer, 22, had a strong pre-season with Manchester United and is expected to have his injury background behind him after muscle issues plagued loans at The Hawthorns and Hull last term.
Ousmane Diakite and Jayson Molumby have currently pulled rank as Morrison’s preferred starting duo, but summer signings Felix Horn Myhre and Rabby Nzingoula can both operate in central midfield.
Collyer is expected to develop into an influential regular, with the head coach a big fan of his qualities.
"Everyone can be important, with the amount of games you play, the squad is needed,” Morrison said as his side face another midweek clash, at Derby, next week.
“With short periods between games, energy can be a big part of it.
"I wanted people to come to the club who've got something to prove and Toby's got that."
Albion’s final new signing of the summer, £1million French defender Brayann Pereira, is vying with fellow new compatriot Nolan Galves for the right-back role.
