James Morrison confirms post-window deals he'd be 'pushing' at West Brom

The Albion boss is not happy with a lack of action stunting youngsters’ development.

James Morrison will push other Albion prospects to go out on loan to the National League after late transfer deadline frustration.

The window closed on Tuesday night without loans sourced for highly-regarded trio Alex Williams, Cole Deeming and Ollie Bostock.

Albion were able to find a post-deadline move for right-back Williams, who joined Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian on a season-long loan on Thursday, with a later deadline north of the border.

Midfielder Deeming and winger Bostock have not found a temporary home and Morrison is frustrated by a lack of movement. The pair can still move to non-league clubs in the National League or below and the head coach would fully support those moves.

Asked about concern if the youngsters cannot secure a loan, Morrison replied: "Yes - it's not enough. They need to go out and play football.

"But if they couldn't get anything they have to be here and find a way to develop at the club.

"(Going to the National League) It's better than nothing, yes. It's still a challenging league. If that came about I'd be pushing them.

"We did, yes (try hard). I identified early that they needed a loan."

Deeming, 19, has been in advanced discussions on a new contract at The Hawthorns and was due to head out on loan after successful stints at Truro and Cheltenham last term but a move did not materialise. Bostock, 19, has yet to head out on loan.

Morrison said: "I'm not aware of anything, I'm hopeful - because those two need games as well.

"It's not for the lack of trying, a few deals were close, but they can be in the building, around the group, continue to improve."

Academy graduate Williams, who turns 22 in the new year, shone against Newcastle in the EFL Cup last week. The Wales youth international has only made two senior professional starts after progress last year was stunted by a broken ankle.

He moved to Hibs too late to feature in Thursday’s Edinburgh derby defeat to Hearts but could make his debut at St. Johnstone on Sunday.

"Yes, it's really good for Alex and the bigger picture,” added the boss.

"I want him to play games. He's only had two senior games of football and he's 21, turning 22. It's not enough.

"And for him - he'd have to force his way into the team here, or be patient. We thought it was right for him to play some games.”
