West Brom 4 Bromley 1: New boy shines as Baggies win in Portugal

Albion impress in front of supporters in the Algarve.

Albion signed off for their Portugal tour with a convincing 4-1 victory over League One new boys Bromley.

James Morrison's side were comfortable winners in front of up to 1,000 supporters in Albufeira, as new recruit Jimmy-Jay Morgan impressed as fans got their first glimpse of the side this summer.

Morgan opened the scoring with a fine finish and, after Bromley equalised from the spot, Aune Heggebo made it 2-1 on the stroke of half-time.

The Baggies finished with a flurry in the Algarve as academy substitute Jack Bray converted a near third and new signing Barney Stewart turned in well.

Morrison could not have hoped for much more as his side avoided injuries, gave fans something to cheer and looked convincing in several aspects, not least the exciting Morgan.

Albion's left side looked sharp from the off with Isaac Price in the mood and combining well with Callum Styles and new boy Morgan.

The Baggies should have led after 10 minutes through that combination.

Price's neat feet and outside-of-the-foot pass fed Morgan, whose low first-time cross looked good for Heggebo, but the Norwegian could not adjust to convert.

Bromley had a spell thereafter but were unable to stretch Max O'Leary after a couple of loose bits of possession, with Alfie Gilchrist guilty.

Morrison's men edged ahead after 16 minutes from that dangerous flank.

A lovely flowing move into the box fed Heggebo who set the ball back for partner Morgan. The new recruit took stock before he caressed a fine finish high into the far corner beyond goalkeeper Grant Smith.

Albion's lead lasted just a few minutes with the Londoners level out of very little. A corner was partly headed on by Nat Phillips before local referee Ricardo Baixinho pointed to the spot, likely due to penalty box wrestling. Gilchrist was cautioned.

Bromley's Adoboyejo found the bottom left corner beyond O'Leary.

The Baggies resumed control thereafter and threatened Bromley's box on a couple of occasions but could not get a meaningful effort away. Morgan had an effort cleared off the line after rounding the keeper but was flagged for offside.

Price was denied by a defender before he clipped the post with an acrobatic effort, but was offside.

Albion re-established the lead on the stroke of half-time through Heggebo, who scrambled in from a low Price cross from the left. Harry Whitwell and Alex Mowatt were involved in the build-up.

Albion made six changes at the break but one of the remaining five, Morgan, almost made it three as he cracked the bar with a fierce strike from a tight angle.

A flurry of changes including youngsters came after the hour, as well as Barney Stewart and the new boy was a willing runner.

Albion's changes kept up the intensity and continued to reduce the League One side to very little.

A late double added some deserved dominance to the scoreline as Bray and Stewart got in on the act.

The third was converted emphatically by former Harrogate teen frontman Bray, who raced on to a lovely through ball by Souleyman Mandey.

Scotland youth international Stewart made it four inside the final 10 minutes with a composed finish from six yards out after being picked out from the left.

It could have been more as Ollie Bostock nodded over from more good Mandey work, but Albion could be satisfied with their evening’s work.
