James Morrison impressed with form and 'belief' from West Brom man

James Morrison is a big admirer of the Baggies midfielder, who has been in good form.

James Morrison has credited Albion star Jayson Molumby for the “belief” in his performances after grabbing games by the scruff of the neck.

Long-serving Molumby has impressed in Albion’s last two outings, the last-gasp victory over Blackburn and late point at Preston.

Boss Morrison singled the Irishman out for praise against Rovers at The Hawthorns, where he was involved in two late goals, and Molumby was his side’s star turn in the battling storm in Preston.

The 27-year-old is Albion longest-serving player and closing in on 200 games for the club - and Morrison values the ‘leadership and steel’ when at his best.

"Yes he is (grabbing games), with his energy, and that's what I like to see with Jays,” Morrison said.

"I think that's him. Once he doesn't believe he can do that he reverts to being quite safe.

"But it shows the leadership he brings, and steeliness he brings to the team, which is very important.”

Molumby is an influential member of Morrison’s squad and valued highly by the head coach.

His importance has been magnified again due to the injury absence of Toby Collyer (hamstring), expected out until early December.

Molumby, Ousmane Diakite and Rabby Nzingoula, the latter still finding his feet, are the Albion boss’ options.

Morrison, meanwhile, is confident his troops will continue to make progress on the training field after recent traits of falling behind and set-piece woes.

"They are the improvements we've got to make,” he said. “We'll get them right and there will be something else! There always is in football.

"But I know where we are. We have to continue to work.

"There were a lot of positives, but the big buts are always around the box.

"We have to get there and I think gradually we will, given time.”
