West Brom attacker to undergo surgery and lengthy spell out after serious injury setback
Albion attacker Tammer Bany will undergo surgery and is likely to be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
Bany, who has been on the fringes at The Hawthorns since checking in for £3.3million almost a year ago, has ruptured a thigh muscle and is expected to be out for four months.
The outcome was determined by a specialist after head coach Ryan Mason told the Express & Star that Jordan international Bany required a consultation given he struggled to train regularly for his club.
And the outcome is that the 22-year-old will go under the knife in a bid to address the injury. The likelihood is he will not feature for his club again this term.
Albion said in a statement that the attacking midfielder picked up the muscle injury in a training session last week.
It comes as a great blow to Bany's club and international ambitions of breaking through and finally having an impact at The Hawthorns, before then targeting the international stage.
Bany has made just five substitute appearances since checking into the club from Randers in Denmark last January. Four of those came last season. He picked up a muscle injury during the pre-season training camp in Austria in July.
Bany, for whom there has been clamour from supporters to see more involvement, declared his allegiance to Jordan this year and made his international debut for the Middle East nation in a friendly in November.
He was hoping to be involved for Jordan in next summer's expanded World Cup, which they qualified for against the odds.
