Battle of in-form strikers as QPR prepare for West Brom with Jamaica hotshot impressing

There is no doubt who Ryan Mason's Albion must keep tabs on in west London on Saturday.

QPR hotshot Rumarn Burrell is carving himself a fine reputation in a debut senior Championship campaign having arrived from Burton Albion in the summer.

Birmingham-born Burrell has fired in five goals in his last seven games and netted seven for the season for Julien Stephan's mid-table side.

It is not a record dissimilar to Albion hitman Aune Heggebo, who has five goals at a better rate of his last four games and seven in total for the campaign.

Burrell continued his good scoring form at Norwich's Carrow Road last time out. He struck to make it 1-1 in Norfolk but the hosts went on to record a first home league win of the campaign.

It was a disappointing end to what Rs boss Stephan labelled "a good week".

QPR had previously seen off Hull 3-2 at Loftus Road in their previous home game - as Burrell converted the winner - and won 1-0 at Blackburn in midweek courtesy of Paul Smyth's late effort.

Burrell's flurry of goals have arrived since mid-October and come in decisive moments for narrow wins for his side. QPR's hit their straps at the end of August for an unbeaten September and look to have responded from a wobble in early November.

The 24-year-old, who won his first of five Jamaica caps in May, is formerly of Coventry's academy. He had a breakthrough move to Middlesbrough after playing for Grimsby but it took a couple of prolific seasons in the third tier of Scottish football to find his feet in the English Football League.

Stephan said in the wake of the Norwich defeat: “I don’t forget that we took six points out of nine this week and, even if it’s difficult to say after a defeat, it’s a good week for us.

“With two games being away, it’s a good week – not a perfect week, but it’s a good week.”

Former Baggie and Rs regular Sam Field has made eight starts and three appearances as substitute this term. Goalkeeper Paul Nardi was dropped last month and replaced by the experienced Ben Hamer, but Nardi returned two games ago due to a Hamer injury.
