Sam Johnstone

Two important early saves from Mbeumo and Benrahma as Brentford came out of the traps with pace and purpose. Mainly regulation work from there despite the hosts having plenty of possession. 7

Darnell Furlong

One or two promising attacking moments in the first half to try and rouse Albion, and having seen Dalsgaard head home at close quarters provided the perfect response with his second goal of the season. A good afternoon’s work. 8

Semi Ajayi

Some uncharacteristic first half lapses in giving away a foul on the edge of the box and then the ball to present Brentford with a chance. But then went close from a corner and recovered superbly in the second half, returning to his powerful best. 6

Kyle Bartley

Grew visibly exasperated by wave after wave of first half Brentford attacks but used his experience to keep Albion solid and make several timely interceptions. Tried manfully to shrug off a painful looking ankle injury but had to give in shortly after half time. 7

Nathan Ferguson

A strong presence down the left but knew from the second minute he was in for a tricky afternoon against Mbeumo. Stuck to the task for the most part and also contributed going forward. 6

Jake Livermore

Needed the captain to keep things on track during a difficult first half when Brentford took control. He did so, growing in influence as the 90 minutes wore on. Well struck second half shot was just too close to the Brentford keeper. 7

Romaine Sawyers

Like Livermore, grew into the game as Albion improved but also found time to spread the play to get the Baggies moving. Fired over in the second half after the ball came back into his path after being involved in some neat interplay. 7

Matt Phillips

Found it tough to make too many forward breaks but had one stinging shot blocked at close quarters in the second half. Some clever corner deliveries were a constant threat including teeing up Furlong for the equaliser. 6

Matheus Pereira

A marked man in the first half hour as Brentford denied him space. Rose above it to produce some sublime touches and was denied the winner late on when Raya parried in the build-up to Austin’s disallowed goal. 7

Kyle Edwards

Recalled for the injured Diangana and some big boots to fill but looked a threat at times. One blazing run at the start of the second half was perfectly timed in setting the tempo for Albion after that tricky opening period. 6

Hal Robson-Kanu

Forced to rely on scraps of service in the first half but looked bright when involved and always willing to get his shot away. Couple of positional changes late on as Albion went for it with the substitutions. 6

Subs

Dara O’Shea (for Bartley) 49

Looked very assured for a young player making his Championship debut against a side notorious for their good football. With Ahmed Hegazi's omission, it looks like Albion have a solid young player to come in for Barnsley should the Egyptian be left out again. 7

Charlie Austin (for Phillips 71)

Thought he'd won it after firing home late on after Matheus Pereira's shot was saved. Wasn't to be though having strayed offside. Took a while to get into game when he came on. Was somewhat unfortunate not to start given his heroics against Blues. 6

Filip Krovinovic (for Edwards 78)

Came on, seemingly to offer some control but also to replace the tiring legs of Edwards. Did fine, but didn't do anything too noteworthy either. 6

Not used: Bond, Brunt, Townsend, Barry.
