Wingers Jacob Murphy and Jefferson Montero arrived on loan from Newcastle and Swansea respectively, while Fulham central midfielder Stefan Johansen has also joined until the end of the season.

All three are eligible to play in Saturday's game against Tony Pulis's Middlesbrough, but a potential fourth deal for Sunderland left-back for Bryan Oviedo could not be completed in time.

“All three will give the team different dimensions,” said head coach Darren Moore. “All three have excellent experience and a real know-how of the division.

"They are good players with individual skill sets which will benefit the team.

“All are wonderful characters which everyone knows is so important to us. They will add more competition to the team and add to our depth and numbers at a crucial time.

“You only have to take one look at the fixture list over the next couple of months.

"As a club we have not faced this kind of schedule for nearly 10 years and it is going to test us.

"I’ve tried to utilise the loan market as much as I can and maximise everything I am able to to help the squad. These players will do that.”

Johansen has only started four games in the Premier League this season, but was a crucial cog in Fulham’s successful promotion campaign last season.

The Norway captain featured in 45 out of 46 league games for the Cottagers as well as all three play-off matches, scoring eight goals and laying on nine assists.

“I’m delighted we have been able to bring Stefan into the group,” added Moore.

“He has got fantastic experience and as a player, a wonderful range of passing, good leadership qualities and a good scoring record.

"He will add to our goal capabilities and will be a quality addition to our squad.”

Albion had been chasing Murphy for the past week, but the North East side threw a spanner in the works today when they attempted to use Albion’s interest in him to strike a deal for Salomon Rondon.

However, that deal proved to be too complicated and a straight loan until the end of the season was agreed.

“He’s another exciting young prospect for English football, an England Under 21 international who has got qualities I think our supporters will enjoy," said Moore.

"He has bags of energy, plenty of pace and a freshness which will be a welcome addition to the team. I’m really thrilled we have got him in.”

Swansea are allowing Montero to leave in order to get his wages off their books, and the 29-year-old is seen as someone who can be a pacy impact substitute until he gets up to speed.

“Jeff will bring an ability to isolate opponents in one-v-one attacking positions and is one of the few wide players I’ve seen who will still go past people," said Moore. "He will give us options and add dimensions for us.”

Albion also had a deadline day bid for Bojan Krkic rejected by Stoke City and were keen on Tottenham youngster Kazaiah Sterling.

However, they cooled interest in Sterling when Johansen agreed to join and the youngster joined Sunderland on loan instead.

Aboubakar Kamara, another player Albion were interested in earlier in the window, signed for Turkish club Yeni Malatyaspor.

The Baggies now have six players on loan in their squad. EFL clubs are allowed eight loanees in total, but can pick just five in their matchday squad.

Defender Jack Fitzwater returned to Walsall on loan, centre-back Kyle Howkins returned to Port Vale on loan, and midfielder Alex Bradley joined League One Burton Albion on loan.
