Darren Moore has faith in West Brom's front-foot philosophy

Darren Moore does not plan to abandon his front-foot philosophy of attacking football despite seeing his side slip to back-to-back defeats.

Set-backs against Wigan Athletic and Derby County in the past week have led to some supporters calling for a change in approach, particularly after the Rams struck four at The Hawthorns in midweek.

But the Baggies boss has defended his style of play by pointing out that only French giants Paris Saint-Germain have scored more goals in Europe than his side.

He has faith in the approach and believes the focus on going forward has given Albion a strong start to the season.

“It’s served us really well thus far,” he said. “In this league and with the personnel we’ve got in the building, it’s a good strength for the team and we’ll try to perform as best we can.

“When we have done that, our attacking prowess has been devastating. We need to keep on top of that.

“That’s the way I felt going into the season and it’s the way we’ve had some positive results. That’s why we’ve made the start we have.”

Despite scoring more goals than any other side in the league, Albion have been leaky at the back.

They have conceded more goals than any team in the top half, and only one team in the whole division has faced more shots than they have.

But when these statistics were put to Moore, he responded: “In Europe, apart from PSG we’re the leading goalscorers. You can either harbour on the negatives, or harbour on the positives.

“We have a real positive stat that is going our way that I’m sure a lot of people would want. I’m very pleased with the way the squad is performing.

“I’m pleased that the other night we were playing to go top of the league. We could potentially go top tomorrow.

“I’ve got to be delighted in terms of where we were in the summer and where we are now.

“It’s been a good start, there’s a long way to go. It’s a start, and that’s it. We haven’t got into the belly of the league really. I’m just moving on to the next game.”

When Moore was asked whether teams had sussed out how to get joy against Albion by closing down their back line quickly, he said: "We have this wonderful tool called analysis. Teams will watch your style of play, as we will do too.

"Teams will set up against us to try and combat that, it’s no different to any sport.

"What you’ve found is the start we’ve had to the season, there’s data on record to what we’re doing.

"It’s up to us to come up with ways to combat that, and that’s the beauty of the game. Teams will watch us as we will watch opposition. It’s up to us to get round it."
