West Brom keeping cardboard clappers for next two home games at least

Albion are sticking with their cardboard clappers for now and plan to give them to fans for the next two home games at least.

The clappers were successfully introduced for January's match with Brighton, and after helping roar the team onto victory, they were due to stay for the rest of the season.

However, they weren't used as much during Saturday's 3-2 defeat against Southampton, when each one also doubled up as a commemorative memento of a game dedicated to Cyrille Regis.

Albion are contemplating whether it's because the novelty has worn off, or whether supporters wanted to keep their special yellow and green clappers intact.

The club is also aware that it may be simply due to the flow of the game and a flat Albion performance that quickly saw Southampton take control of the ball after an early Ahmed Hegazi goal.

Albion have already ordered the clappers for the FA Cup tie with Saints and the league game with Huddersfield, and hope they will help improve the atmosphere in those two crucial fixtures.

The idea to introduce the freebies – which were popularised by Leicester City during their title-winning season and cost the club roughly £10,000 to produce – came from chief executive Martin Goodman.
