Tony Pulis planning talks over Callum McManaman's West Brom future

Albion boss Tony Pulis will speak with Sheffield Wednesday this week as he looks to resolve the future of forgotten man Callum McManaman.

The 26-year-old winger spent the second half of the season on loan with the Owls and Pulis wants to discover whether the Championship club would be interested in making the deal permanent.

McManaman became Pulis’s first signing as Albion boss when he joined from Wigan in January 2015 but is now deemed surplus to requirements at The Hawthorns and the Baggies are willing to let him depart in a cut-price deal with a year still remaining on his contract.

“I’ll be talking to the people at Wednesday now they are out of the play-offs,” said Pulis. “That was a big disappointment for them.

“I would rather talk to the club first and see where they sit.”

While a quick resolution appeals to both Albion and McManaman, persuading Wednesday to agree a deal appears unlikely.

McManaman started only two games during his loan stay at Hillsborough and made his the last of 11 total appearances in a 1-1 draw at Barnsley on April 1, failing to make the squad in both legs of the club’s play-off defeat to Huddersfield.

The situation is further complicated by uncertainty surrounding the future of Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal. The Spaniard has met with the club’s owners in the past few days to discuss his future following missing out on promotion to the Premier League.

McManaman was tracked by several clubs, including Newcastle, last summer and Albion are hopeful he still has a number of suitors in the Championship despite a lack of game-time in recent seasons.

The Baggies initially wanted to recoup as much of the £4.75milllion they paid Wigan as possible but have now dropped their asking price. Having fallen dramatically out of favour during the course of the 2015/16 campaign, when Pulis criticised him for diving, McManaman’s last first-team appearance for Albion came in April last year.
