Jonny Evans reckons the whole team must take responsibility for Albion’s goal drought.

The Baggies have failed to score for five consecutive league games for the first time in their history, contributing to a run of four straight defeats which has left their top half finish in doubt.

And while much of the focus will fall on the form of Salomon Rondon, who has now not scored for 19 games, Evans insists every player deserved their share of the blame.

“We are disappointed not score again but we have to look at ourselves and be critical about why we are not creating chances,” he said.

“We all take responsibility for that on the pitch and it is something we want to rectify.” Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Leicester may have increased frustrations at The Hawthorns, yet it will remain a memorable occasion for Evans, who captained the Baggies for the first time in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old was handed the armband as Darren Fletcher’s run of 86 consecutive starts came to an end. Evans admitted the experience took a bit of getting used to.

“It was really nice. It didn’t really sink in until close to the game,” he said. “The manager names the team an hour-and-a-half before.

“I was actually late for the referee’s meeting because I forgot about it! As soon as Fletch came back on the pitch, I was happy to give the armband back!”
