The 60-year-old, who won two caps for England in 1984, was named boss of the ninth-tier team on the last day of the season after they assured their Sydenhams Premier League survival.

Hunt's only previous managerial experience came at Willenhall Town in the late 1980s, although he also worked as a youth team coach for Port Vale and Leicester City.

Cowes Sports FC made the announcement on their Facebook page, saying: "We're delighted to announce that former Coventry, West Brom, Villa and England winger Steve Hunt is our New 1st Team manager. Welcome Steve!"

The Sydenhams Premier League feeds into Southern League Division One South and West.

Until Jake Livermore featured against Germany last month, Hunt held the record as the last Albion outfield player to line up for England.
