The Venezuelan striker returned yesterday from international duty in South America after playing two games for his country, the latest of which was a 2-0 defeat to Brazil in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Last time Albion's talismanic striker came back from an international break, head coach Tony Pulis started him on the bench against Bournemouth.

Fletcher picked up a dead leg in Scotland's game against Lithuania last weekend. Although he played an hour for his country in their 3-0 defeat to Slovakia on Tuesday, he's also being looked at ahead of tomorrow's match at The Hawthorns.

"Salomon came in late so we'll have a look at him today," said Pulis. "There's one or two we're still assessing and then we'll make a decision.

"Everybody's got to deal with it. There's a lot of South Americans playing in England now so it's not just us who have to deal with it. A lot of clubs have to as well.

"We'll assess him today and along with a couple of others who have done a lot of travelling.

"It's just seeing whose come back physically strong enough and whether they've had enough rest to play in what will be a very tough game for us."

If Rondon isn't fit enough, then Pulis is more likely to give Hal Robson-Kanu his first start in an Albion shirt rather then play Saido Berahino against the club who tried to buy him in successive transfer windows.

"Hal has trained well in the last two weeks," said the Baggies boss, when he was asked if Berahino could feature. "You can't just pick one, we might need the other lad.

"We'll need everyone playing well, having a go, and the supporters to really get behind us."

One player who will be itching to get on the pitch against his former club is Nacer Chadli, who Albion bought from Spurs in the summer for a club record £13million.

"Nacer's done well," said Pulis. "We've been really pleased with him, not just the way he's played, but also the way he's mixed well with the group.

"All the players we brought in have integrated well. The spirit there is very good and we've got to try and maintain that with good results.

"He's settled in with the group off the pitch as well. He's got a good manner about him.

"I think they look up to him as well in respect that technically he's an exceptional player. Let's hope he keeps scoring goals."
