Albion season tickets in top five for affordability

Season tickets at the Hawthorns are some of the most affordable in the Premier League for locals, according to data from the Financial Times.

Taking into account the average annual earnings in the political constituency around the stadium, the Baggies come in fifth for value for money.

Only Crystal Palace, Stoke, Sunderland and Watford have season tickets that work out cheaper for locals based on their respective salaries.

Albion's online season ticket price for the Birmingham Road End and the Smethwick End is £399, roughly two per cent of the average salary in the area of £20,000.

That is the fourth cheapest in the league, behind Stoke (£344), Sunderland (£370) and Watford (£385).

Although Palace's cheapest season ticket is £460, London wages make it slightly more affordable for locals than Albion's.

Liverpool's £869 season ticket is by far the most unaffordable for people living in the area, and works out at roughly five per cent of locals' annual earnings.

Tottenham are second and Manchester City come third.

However, the most expensive season ticket in the league is by far and away Arsenal's, which costs £1,014.

The Baggies raised their season ticket prices by £50 for this season, returning prices to 2011/12 levels following a price cut and subsequent freeze.

The club are expected to freeze prices for next season, although this hasn't been officially confirmed yet.

When the price hike was announced, chief executive Mark Jenkins said: "Even with these rises, I expect the cost of football at The Hawthorns to remain one of the cheapest in the Premier League.

"So this is a decision taken with great reluctance.

"However, we have to acknowledge the competitive realities of staying in the Premier League."
