West Brom still planning to keep Saido

West Brom insist they have no plans to sell star striker Saido Berahino despite the planned £15million arrival of new club-record signing Salomon Rondon.

Baggies sources today remained adamant they expect Berahino to stay at the Hawthorns for this season, even after Rondon completes his big-money move from Zenit St Petersburg.

News of Rondon's impending arrival raised weekend fears among some fans of Berahino's departure.

There's been increased media speculation over interest from Tottenham and tonight's Hawthorns opponents, Manchester City.

But the Express & Star understands the signing of the 25-year-old Venezuelan international has no direct bearing on Berahino's future.

Albion officials acknowledge a huge-money offer for Berahino in the final three weeks of the transfer window could change the landscape – a reality underlined by comments from boss Tony Pulis today.

But they remain baffled and increasingly irritated by ongoing speculation surrounding a move to Tottenham as the Baggies have received no approach at all from White Hart Lane for the 22-year-old.

Pulis said: "Never say never in football, because you just don't know what's around the corner.

"For me to say 'we're going to do this', 'we're not going to do that' or 'that is set in stone', would be wrong. It's not going to happen.

"Who knows what is around the corner in this game? But he's a good player and we want to keep him at the club.

"I believe another year of playing regular football at West Bromwich Albion will make him a better player and a stronger character, but that's my opinion."

Rondon's move is expected to be confirmed in the next 48 hours, but he will not be eligible to face City at the Hawthorns tonight. Berahino is expected to start.
