Albion is the best place for Saido Berahino, says SuperBob

Albion legend Bob Taylor has urged goalscoring star Saido Berahino to commit himself to the Baggies and continue learning his trade at The Hawthorns.

'SuperBob' says Berahino should resist any moves from bigger clubs to lure him away from the Baggies and make the most of regular first-team football to hone his skills.

Berahino, who is set for fresh talks over a contract extension once he chooses a new agent, scored 20 goals last season to spark speculation about interest from the Premier League's biggest clubs.

But Taylor said: "He's only a young striker and he has scored goals for us, but he hasn't done much in the game to prove he can do it consistently.

"So he needs to stay put with us and we need to look after him and nurture him.

"Hopefully he can bang in another 20 goals this season if not 25, and if he's doing that with help from other strikers or attacking midfield players we will win more games than we lose.

"He's getting first-team football here. He's the big fish in the small pond.

"If he goes to another club, does he want to be sat on the bench week in, week out?

"The money is there if he wants to go but I'm a big believer if you learn your trade somewhere where you're already getting well paid then the money looks after itself. Hopefully he will have a sensible head on his shoulders and people around him who will guide him."

Berahino's return to form at the end of last season saw the Baggies climb away from relegation danger and Taylor is hopeful Pulis can mastermind further improvement this season.

He said: "We have always got to be optimistic because it's a fresh start after last season.

"We have a new manager and he's going to change things.

"I don't think he could change much last season but this season is a clean slate so there might be a different format to the way teams set up and play."
