Albion's stars visited Emanuel AME Church during a walkabout Charleston, South Carolina, on the latest leg of their American tour.

The Baggies landed in Charleston on Thursday and were given a guided tour of 'downtown' by representatives from Charleston Battery, their opponents in a friendly on Friday.

And the walk included a visit to the church, which is just a few streets from the team hotel.

Players chatted to locals, questioned their guides about the tragedy and looked at flowers at what has become a shrine to the victims.

Dylann Roof, aged 21, faces nine charges of murder and three of attempted murder following the incident on June 17 at the historic black church.

Dan Conover, Director of Marketing and Communications for Charleston Battery, said: "Walking over there with these players from England talking with Brown Ideye was remarkable.

"He asked all the right questions. He said 'why would someone do this?'

"That's a question we've been trying to answer in Charleston now for about a month.

"And it's been a remarkable time for the city and the whole country.

"The players were silent, other than asking a few questions, and they were very respectful.

"But I think what I enjoyed the most was watching people that were there – because it's an impromptu shrine and there is always someone there observing it – asking the Albion players who they were and where they were from.

"When they found out they were from England they were very interested and wanted to know how this was perceived over there.

"Mother Emanuel is now an international symbol and now Albion is part of that."
