West Brom's James Morrison claims Chelsea draw got Steve Clarke sacked
Albion take on Chelsea tonight with midfielder James Morrison claiming the draw with the Blues in November got Steve Clarke the sack.
Clarke's side were denied victory by a contentious stoppage-time penalty at Stamford Bridge.
Referee Andre Marriner's controversial award, when Ramires went down after an innocuous collision with Steven Reid, produced a spot-kick which Eden Hazard converted for 2-2.
Referees chief Mike Riley later apologised to the Baggies – and Clarke was sacked less than two months later with his side in freefall.
"I think that got Steve the sack, as harsh as it is," said Morrison.
"If we'd got three points there we would have been up the table.
"It's obviously a tough job being a referee, but their decisions can cost jobs, which is a shame for Steve."
