Albion today left the door open for new boss Pepe Mel to recruit his own staff from Spain this summer.

The Spaniard has joined the Baggies alone and working alongside assistant boss Keith Downing and goalkeeping coach Dean Kiely.

But the 50-year-old remains keen for a reunion with former Real Betis assistant Roberto Rios and fitness coach David Gomez and Albion have hinted they will review the backroom team at the end of the season.

Sporting and technical director Richard Garlic said: "He's pleasantly surprised about working with Keith and Dean and all the other staff.

"It's a similar situation we had with Roy Hodgson. He came in by himself, took his time, worked with the staff and found they were excellent to work with.

"We said to Pepe that we would monitor the situation and, if there comes a point where he feels, or the club feels, he needs support then we will look at it.

"But there are no immediate plans to rush out and appoint extra staff. He is more than happy with the staff he's got."

Mel, who was unveiled officially yesterday as Steve Clarke's successor, added: "Of course, these people (Rios and Gomez) would be very good additions for West Bromwich Albion but the current staff are doing a really good job.

"It is a possibility – West Brom is a club that wants to improve everything and this would be a way of improving.

"The existing staff at West Brom are doing a very good job and working together we'll be able to move forward."
