The 36-year-old has completed a probationary period after replacing Dan Ashworth in the summer.

Garlick will oversee the first team, player recruitment, medical services and the Baggies' academy.

Chairman Jeremy Peace said: "Richard has settled into his new role admirably. We now look forward to him further stamping his mark on the post."

Garlick added: "The last nine months have been challenging but also very rewarding. I'm delighted to have been appointed on a permanent basis."

Albion have also promoted Dave McDonough to the role of director of technical performance and scouting, six months after he joined as head of analysis.

And Mark Gillett, the club's head of medical services for more than three years, has been appointed director of performance.

Both will report to Garlick, who said: "Since Dave joined us, he has put forward many ideas about how we can improve our player recruitment processes.

"Whereas Dave will concentrate on the footballing and technical attributes of our players, Mark's focus will be on their physical performance."
