West Brom debut's a dream for teen Isaiah Brown
Albion teenager Isaiah Brown today spoke of his "dream come true" after making a historic Baggies debut at the age of 16.
The midfielder played the final four minutes as a substitute in Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Wigan, becoming the Baggies' youngest competitive first-teamer in more than 90 years.
The schoolboy, whose debut came at 16 years and 117 days old, is now the second-youngest player in Premier League history behind Fulham's Matthew Briggs.
"The result was disappointing – we have to learn from it and move on – but I was delighted just to get my debut in the first team," said Brown. "It's something I've been waiting for and it's a dream come true for any young player.
"Steve Clarke kept saying 'Izzy, keep warm' and I was just waiting for the time when he said 'Izzy, get your shirt on'.
"When that happened I don't know what I was feeling. I was nervous, happy and excited – all those emotions in one. I can't describe what it was like. There is no word other than 'amazing'."
Peterborough-born Brown's appearance made him the second youngest player to feature in a competitive game for the Baggies behind Charlie 'Tug' Wilson, who played at 16 years 73 days in the First Division against Oldham in 1921.
Head coach Steve Clarke said: "It's great for Izzy and it's good for the club."
It's important that we show there is a path from the academy to the first team.
"Isaiah trains with the group. He's been with the group for a number of weeks and he's done well. It's a first full step in what could be a good career for the boy."
