A man using a chainsaw to cut tree branches in West Bromwich suffered extensive injuries when he fell around 25ft to the ground. The man was working on land between two properties, in Emily Street.
He fell from a ladder at around 10.45am yesterday crashing into a fence before landing on a concrete surface.
A rapid response paramendic and the Midlands Air Ambulance were scrambled to the scene.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said: "The man was able to tell ambulance staff that he had been up a ladder using the chainsaw but couldn't remember exactly what had happened.
"Thankfully the chainsaw was found a short distance away. However, the man had suffered serious injuries after hitting a fence on the way down before landing on concrete.
"The 41- year-old had suffered facial, wrist and possible pelvic fractures as well as chest and abdominal injuries.
He was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board as well as a pelvic splint.
"The man was taken to the major trauma centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham," added Mr McGregror.
