Paul Scharner targets derby winner

Albion midfielder Paul Scharner is targeting a derby day winner against Villa on Saturday after being egged on by Baggies fans on Facebook.

The Austria international is keen to find the net at the Hawthorns after scoring all of his four goals this season away from home.

And the 31-year-old is targeting a goal against Villa at the weekend, after fans stressed the importance of the match online.

Scharner is a regular on the social networking site and his official Facebook fan page has more than 1,700 'friends.'

He said: "A goal would be massive. My first focus is to help the defence and close down the middle of the pitch but, if there is a chance, I would like to score against these teams.

"I will try everything and you never know. One of my main targets is to score one at the Hawthorns before the end of the season."

Scharner played in the 1-1 Hawthorns draw with Wolves after scoring in the Baggies' 2-1 defeat at Villa Park and is relishing the atmosphere of Albion's derby fortnight.

Saturday's home clash with Villa is a chance for Albion to end a 26-year winless run in the fixture, before a trip to Molineux to face Wolves eight days later.

And Scharner said: "Derbies are something I missed in the last few years. We didn't really have a derby in Norway with Brann Bergen and at Wigan there were a few local games, but not with derby atmospheres like we have here.

"The last one I had was in Vienna, when we played Rapid Vienna against Austria Vienna, which is a massive derby.

"I am looking forward to these games because if I look on my Facebook site everybody is speaking about these two games.

"That's why I am focused on the next two games and I think we're in a really good situation at the moment.

"We're on 40 points and now we can enjoy our season. It was a nice goal at Villa it was in a 2-1 loss.

"In the next two games the only thing we have in our minds is getting three points against these teams, this is the most important thing."
