'We nearly held out' - Walsall boss on late heartbreak at Crewe
Walsall boss Lee Grant’s satisfaction at his team continuing to head in the right direction and maintain their unbeaten start was tempered by the change in momentum which saw Crewe hit back for a late equaliser.
Walsall led twice through Aaron Pressley at the Mornflake Stadium, only to be pegged back on both occasions, for the second and crucial time in the 92 minute when Reece Hutchinson fired home to claim a point for the Railwaymen.
There was much for Grant and his players to be positive about in front of a strong and loud away following, but he will still be keen for more to ensure Walsall can build and even improve on their promising start.

“We nearly held out but I think in the last half hour, if Crewe hadn’t scored, they would have been really disappointed,” said Grant.
“And I think we probably invited that on.

“We were excellent in the first half and were well worth our lead but then it was really well-worked that we went back in front.
“We were aggressive when out of possession and dangerous when we regained the ball, but then a different mentality took over us which I didn’t like, and the group didn’t like.
“They then got their second equalising goal which they probably deserved.
