Walsall complete first summer signing with new striker addition

Walsall have made their first signing of the summer transfer window.

Walsall have completed the signing of Scottish striker Andrew Dallas following his release from Barnsley.

The 26-year-old becomes the first summer arrival under new head coach Lee Grant, after penning a two-year deal - and will officially join once his contract at Barnsley expires on July 1.

Dallas scored once in just five appearances for Barnsley after joining the League One outfit in 2023.

He impressed on loan at Southend United last term - scoring 17 goals and setting up three more in 41 appearances in the National League.

The Scotsman also netted five times for Barrow and three for Morecambe during a pair of loan spells in League Two in 2024-25.

Prior to completing his switch to Oakwell, Dallas plundered 34 goals in 83 games for Solihull Moors and seven in 14 outings during a temporary stay at Chesterfield in 2023. He also reached the play-off final with both clubs in back-to-back seasons.

Dallas started his career at Rangers, but moved to England with Cambridge United via loan spells at Stenhousemuir and Greenock Morton.

His stay at the Abbey Stadium was limited to just 10 starts in all competitions, before he discovered form on loan at Weymouth with 12 goals in 25 appearances.

He has also had loan spells with Kilmarnock and Oldham Athletic during his time at Barnsley.

The arrival of Dallas will bolster the Saddlers’ attacking ranks following the loss of Daniel Kanu, Jamille Matt and Aaron Loupalo-Bi.

Kanu finished as their leading scorer with 18 goals across all competitions last term during his loan spell from Charlton Athletic.

Former club captain Jamille Matt was released after three-and-a-half years at Bescot and has since joined eighth-tier outfit Bromsgrove Sporting.

20-year-old Loupalo-Bi made 16 appearances after joining on loan from Fulham under-21s in January, scoring once.

Prior to Dallas’ signing, fellow Scotsman Aaron Pressley - who netted seven goals last term - was the only striker contracted next season.
