Walsall player ratings: Mixed bag in successive stalemate with Rochdale

George Bennett provides his Walsall player ratings from their 0-0 draw against Rochdale at Bescot in League Two.

Jed Ward

Produced an excellent save late in the first half to deny Dajaune Brown but otherwise went untested between the sticks.

Clean sheet: 7

Elicha Ahui

Seemed reluctant to cross the ball in the first half, but drove forward more after the break and dealt with his defensive duties well.

Mixed: 6

Declan Skura

Made his return from a leg injury and defended with real vigour, sweeping into a handful of important sliding challenges.

Returned: 7

James Connolly

Made an important early interception with Kane Taylor lurking dangerously inside the box and saw his header cleared off the line in the second half.

Solid: 7

Mason Hancock

Showed good energy at times and forced a couple of saves from Nils Ramming and threatened with a number of crosses.

Bright: 6

Sven Sprangler

Recalled at the base of midfield and diligently well about his business, as he expertly broke up play. Blazed his only sight of goal well off target.

Diligent: 7

Charlie Crew

Broke the lines on a handful of occasions, but was walking a disciplinary tightrope after picking up a booking in the first half.

Tightrope: 6

Tai Sodje

Had a couple of sighters: hitting a tame shot straight at Ramming and flashing another from a tight angle across goal.

Difficult: 6

Antony Evans

Started on the right and showed a few good touches. Clipped a nice cross into the box for Pressley to head over before he was replaced.

Flashes: 6

Reece Smith

Showed electrifying pace and demonstrated his excellent first touch several times, but never really had a sight of goal.

Electrifying: 7

Aaron Pressley

Had a close-range finish blocked behind and headed another chance over, but was unable to find the breakthrough on a frustrating afternoon.

Frustrated: 6

Substitutes

Courtney Clarke (for Evans, 62)

Looked to get in amongst things, but lacked composure at the key moment.

Loose: 6

Isaac Moore (for Crew, 62)

Made a really bright run down the right to set-up a half-chance for Pressley and provided good energy following his introduction.

Energetic: 6

Andy Dallas (for Sodje, 82)

Unable to impact the game following his late introduction.

Lewis Simper (for Ahui, 89)

Came close with an audacious overhead kick in stoppage time.
