All 12 of Walsall's departing players - as club announce released list

Walsall have confirmed that 12 players will leave the club after the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.

A summer rebuild lies ahead for Walsall after they announced the release of 12 players on Wednesday.

Walsall are yet to appoint a permanent replacement for Mat Sadler - who departed the club in March following a run of just two wins in 14 games.

First team coach Darren Byfield took interim charge until the end of the season but ended his reign with four defeats from his final five games in League Two.

That saw the Saddlers drop to a 13th-place finish after topping League Two as recently as Boxing Day.

Here is the full list of those heading for the Bescot exit door...

Aden Flint

The 36-year-old penned a one-year deal when he joined as a free agent following his release from Mansfield Town last summer.

He initially served as a rock in the heart of the Saddlers defence during the first half of the campaign, but his form was patchy at best after the turn of the year.

In total, Flint made 48 appearances for Walsall in 2025-26 - scoring twice and setting up one more.

Brandon Comley

Comley was the longest-serving member in the squad after joining Walsall under Michael Flynn in 2022.

The 30-year-old extended his contract until this summer in February 2024 and was a regular at the base of midfield during the second half of the season.

He made 151 appearances for the Saddlers in all competitions - registering two goals and two assists.

Jamille Matt

The former Saddlers captain spent three-and-a-half years with his local club, but his last season never really got going due to both selection and injury.

Matt has scored 23 goals in 140 matches for Walsall but found the net just three times in all competitions in 2025-26.

The 36-year-old received limited game time in the early knockings of the campaign, before enjoying an extended spell in the team between late October and late January.

However, a hip problem which was soon to be followed by a knee injury has largely kept him sidelined ever since.

He started his last game for Walsall when he was forced off at half-time in a 2-2 draw at Chesterfield on January 31 and made his final appearance as a late sub in Mat Sadler’s final game on March 10.

Charlie Lakin

The midfielder arrived at Walsall off the back of a fruitful loan spell at relegated Sutton United, which heralded eight goals and five assists in just 21 games during the second half of 2023-24.

Lakin was not able to replicate those numbers with Walsall, although his work ethic has often been praised, especially during their table-topping form in the first half of 2024-25.

The 26-year-old netted five goals and set-up five more in 97 appearances across his two seasons at Walsall, but struggled for form in the latter stages of his second campaign.

Jamie Jellis

Jellis made his 100th Walsall appearance as a second half substitute during their 3-1 defeat at Bromley on the final day.

The midfielder scored seven goals during his first full campaign in the EFL in 2024-25, but has had a number of challenges both on and off the pitch in the past 18 months.

After arriving from non-league Tamworth in January 2024, Jellis penned an 18-month deal with an option year, which was triggered by the club last summer.

In recent days, Jellis has been linked with Wycombe Wanderers, Luton Town and MK Dons.

Evan Weir

Weir joined from fellow Trivela-owned Drogheda United in January 2024 before heading back out on loan to the Irish outfit.

He returned later that summer but was limited to just 22 appearances - with star man Taylor Allen ahead of him in the pecking order.

Allen’s departure presented him with his breakthrough into the first team last summer and Weir initially looked set to seize his opportunity - scoring three goals in League Two by mid to late September.

The Irishman dropped off dramatically after the turn of the year and didn’t feature in any of the Saddlers’ final 10 games under Byfield.

Alfie Chang

Chang re-joined Walsall until the end of the season in January after previously spending the second half of 2024-25 on loan at Bescot.

However, the midfielder was unable to shake off his injury problems and was reduced to just six appearances.

Gordon re-joined Walsall for his third spell when he penned a two-year deal to complete his switch from Burton Albion in 2024.

A pair of long-term hamstring injuries hampered his returning campaign and he has spent the past season on loan at Barrow - scoring nine goals in the process.

Priestley Farquharson

Farquharson has been plagued by injuries since joining in the summer of 2023. His first two campaigns heralded only 24 appearances - although he did score five times in 35 games in his most recent season.

The 29-year-old had an option year included in the one-year extension he signed last summer, but he will depart after three years with the club.

Charlie Wragg

Wragg made his senior debut as a late substitute in a 1-0 win over Fulham under-21s in the EFL Trophy in September 2024.

He made another cameo from the bench in the same competition in 2025 - after scoring twice in a pre-season friendly at Leamington last summer.

The 19-year-old spent the first half of 2025-26 on loan at Halesowen Town, but was recalled due to a lack of game time.

He then concluded the season on loan at Stafford Town.

Dylan Thomas

Thomas made his senior debut aged just 16 as a late substitute during the Saddlers’ 3-2 defeat against Brighton under-21s in August 2023.

He went on to make four first team appearances in total and signed his first professional deal in May 2024.

The 19-year-old scored a late winner at Tamworth during pre-season later that summer but was unable to break into the first team.

Jake Hollman

Walsall announced its decision to terminate Hollman’s two-year contract by mutual consent after just one season in England.

Hollman made only eight appearances in all competitions after completing his switch from Australian outfit Macarthur FC on a free transfer last summer.

He has not featured since suffering a season-ending hamstring injury in a 4-2 defeat at Northampton Town in January.
