Byfield - who is reportedly to set to take on the job until the end of the season - lifted Walsall to within two points of the League Two play-off places with eight games to go.

Although Walsall remain winless at WS1 in eight games, they did avoid setting an unwanted record of five successive home defeats for the first time in the Bescot era.

Here are the biggest talking points from the draw...

Byfield's rousing audition

Two games, four points, two clean sheets. Darren Byfield has instilled Walsall with defensive solidity - while helping them rediscovering their attacking grove - even if they didn't find the net on Tuesday.

There has been a refreshing difference in the nature of performances during Byfield's brief tenure as interim assistant.

Darren Byfield has taken four points from a possible six in interim charge of Walsall.

The switch to a 4-3-3 appears to have liberated the team which suddenly looks much more fluid both in and out-of-possession.

Byfield said clean sheets are the foundation to success and Myles Roberts was not forced into a single save - just to further illustrate the quality of the defensive performance on Tuesday.

But Walsall look much more of a threat going forward too and had the best chances to snatch maximum points in the second half.
