The Walsall interim head coach marked his first game following the departure of Mat Sadler last week, with a comprehensive 3-0 triumph at Crewe Alexandra, which ended a run of three successive defeats in League Two.

Walsall remain the only team in the division yet to taste victory on home soil in 2026 and have suffered four defeats on the bounce at Bescot for the first time since early 2021.

Walsall will be searching for their first home win of 2026 when Cambridge visit Bescot on Tuesday.

They have not lost five in a row in front of their own supporters (across all competitions) since their final season at Fellows Park under former Wolves boss John Barnwell between October 17 and December 2 in 1989.

Byfield is set to remain in the dugout for his Bescot bow and has urged his players to consolidate their latest success at Crewe.

On his potential selection, he revealed: "No [there are no further injury issues] - I think fatigue kicks in.

"Some of them haven't played as many games and it was tough because Crewe move you about so you feel it on your legs.

"We'll let them enjoy [the Crewe win] but I've told them that we've got to be ready for Tuesday and we've got to get the selection right."
